Compositions

Jeff Beal’s career spans several decades with an oeuvre that includes hundreds of works for the screen and stage. Following in the tradition of great American composers such as Copland, Gershwin and Bernstein, his works are influenced by his roots as a jazz trumpeter, and incorporate a sophistication that has made him the favorite of outstanding directors of both dramas and documentaries.

In his native California, he composed for films and television shows, notably including Pollock, Monk, and House of Cards.

His compositions for the concert hall have taken many forms, from symphonic to song-cycles, from ballet to works for solo piano.

HIGHLIGHTED WORKS

METROPOLIS

In 2026, Jeff Beal’s new score to Fritz Lang’s silent film masterpiece, Metropolis, was premiered in Prague. This is the third film in the trilogy of silent films the composer has worked on recently, having composed a score for Dr. Caligari and The General.

Further live performances of the work are planned as part of the film’s 100 year anniversary celebration.

Inspired by New York City, Jeff composed two volumes of solo piano études, capturing his life in the city, his life with MS, and moments from his personal life.

Jeff released a recording of each volume on Platoon, with the first record receiving over 7 millions streams of Apple Classical alone.

Jeff toured the second volume, performing it live in New York City, Vienna, London, Las Vegas and Paris.
